Client:
9/11 Memorial & Museum
What they do:
The National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center in New York City honors the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. It preserves the history of these events through authentic artifacts, multimedia displays, and personal stories of loss and resilience.
Project info:
On the 20th Anniversary of September 11, 2001, 9/11 shifted from lived memory to taught memory. Our task was to show that the lessons of 9/11 live on in the next generation. To do this, we launched The Never Forget Fund, a marketing and fundraising initiative to support the Museum’s educational mission. The campaign deployed advertising, a digital activation and earned media to reach potential donors who would support the Museum’s programs.
My role:
I developed the look and feel of the campaign, leveraging the texture of the Last Column, the final architectural element of the original World Trade Center removed from Ground Zero. To show the temporary nature of the memories from September 11th, 2001, I used actual imagery from the surrounding days and showed them as photographs taped loosely to the Last Column, to cement the idea that these are fragile, precious memories just hanging on, and deserve to be remembered.
