Robots and Blood Transfusions

Making blood transfusion robotics technology exciting is harder than I thought. Designing an article that stands out in a medical association publication is not a simple task. This is an example of grasping the topic before beginning a project. After reading the article and researching the topics, I found out that the work they were doing was actually pretty interesting. Robots carrying blood through busy hospitals, navigating corridors, offices, patients and staff, all on the fly. I decided to reference toys from the 50′s in the illustration for the spread. When you’re dealing with a serious topic, it helps to find something interesting about it that you can tug on. It makes for a great contrast between reading about a topic and experiencing it.

AABB loved it. They received a great deal of praise from readers about the art and design. I was just happy that I got to draw some robots.
